What aroma do you associate with homeliness? I can’t think of anything other than the aroma of cakes, tarts and loaves baking in the oven. Especially banana loaf that’s just about halfway through the baking process. That smell is enough to make me pull my mattress into the kitchen and not move a limb until it’s done. Never mind standing in line for Justin Bieber tickets – I’ll camp out for baked goods instead!
Banana loaf is much more versatile than just spreading slices with butter. I love serving it toasted with mascarpone and honey or even with peanut butter and maple syrup. It’s also delicious if you add chocolate pieces into the batter before baking or toasted nuts. Other ways of enjoying banana loaf is making French toast with it or even using it in bread pudding. Try serving it with various fruit spreads like gooseberry or marmalade and adding camembert or cream cheese for extra oomph.
