If you’re looking for flavour overload, then I’ve got just the recipe for you! This salad is packed with ingredients that make it quite a substantial salad – substantial enough to easily serve as a main course.
Black forest ham is a smoked ham originating in the Black Forest region of Germany. Ham is flavoured with garlic and spices, cured in salt for up to 2 weeks. After the salt is removed the ham is cold smoked for a few weeks, in which time it get its characteristic blackened outer layer. After the smoking process the ham is air dried. It’s no wonder black forest ham is quite pricy, hey.
I am in love with Richard Bosman’s black forest ham – it’s the only one I ever buy. It has beautiful, intense flavour and makes any dish really special. Richard Bosman products are available at a few supermarkets and delis – be sure to look out for it!
This salad contains roasted pears (the pears go really sweet and yummy in the oven), baby carrot, blue cheese, walnuts and of course the delicious main attraction: black forest ham. Nothing else needs to be prepared when serving this salad. Only a couple of glasses chardonnay, perhaps!
