I associate lazy mornings with fresh, flaky pastries, steaming, strong coffee and good company. But recently I’ve discovered something else I like to add into the “lazy morning” mix and that is whipped butter. Yes, it’s a simple item, I know, but it perfects those flaky pastries like you won’t believe.
The really great thing about whipped butters are that you can prepare quite a bit at one time and keep it in the fridge, which makes everyday pastry enjoyment a breeze. Something else that is so nice about preparing whipped butter, is that you can add so many different flavours to it. Citrus, nut paste, grated chocolate, honey, flavoured syrup and more.
So, lately, Sunday mornings consist of lightly toasted croissants with whipped butter on the side. I also like to have a jar or two of fruit preserves, like green fig or melon pieces and the whipped butter pairs beautifully with those, of course. Especially with vanilla or lemon butter. The other morning I made a huge batch of hotcakes, and what do you know, hotcakes love whipped butter too! I made orange whipped butter and enjoyed it with the steaming hotcakes and maple syrup. A perfect match. The light butter melts ever so gently into the warm hotcakes and becomes a new taste sensation.
Whipped butter and croissants are a firm favourite at the moment. I’ve also made French toast with brioche and covered it with whipped butter to which I added grated blueberry chocolate. Can you just take a moment to imagine that!
Spruce up your breakfast routine and try preparing a few different whipped butters to enjoy with your favourite pastries.
