Another way to prepare Christmas dessert without having to spend hours in the kitchen, is to make use of things like store bought chocolate brownies, chocolate muffins, long life vanilla custard etc. Combine these ingredients in a clever way, and you won’t have to miss out on any family fun due to cooking.
I made use of Woolworths chocolate brownies, chocolate mousse and and fresh cherries to make a chocolate and cherry trifle. Follow the normal rule at aiming to have a finished dessert with layers, but if you want to add some toasted almonds or chocolate shards, then go crazy! Make Chantilly cream by whipping a little castor sugar and vanilla into fresh cream. Sprinkle the brownies or the cake with some brandy or orange liqueur to add extra flavour.
If you’re not a fan of chocolate cake or brownies, make use of vanilla cake, Swiss roll or even vanilla muffins. Anything kind of goes in my kitchen when it comes to preparing trifle!
