We all know very well that when it comes to decadent chocolate indulgence beyond comprehension, we turn to the French. They know best how to mix eggs, butter and chocolate to form the perfect chocolate cake, right.
I found this recipe in a book that I’ve had for a few years now, but never really had the time to read through. The book is Summer Food in Provence by the talented South African author Marita van der Vyver. It’s a lovely book with a collection of recipes and stories about her life in France.
I made the chocolate cake exactly according to her recipe and it was absolutely divine! It’s very moist and gooey, but perfect for any dinner party dessert and great to serve as a wheat free alternative. I made a dark chocolate ganache to spread over the cake, but realised afterwards that this cake needs no dressing up. It’s perfectly capable of impressing diners on it’s own.
Next time I’ll add some chopped hazelnuts or maybe orange rind, just for a twist on the original recipe.
