From the 26th to 28th of May Fiera Milano Exhibitions Africa, ICE (The Italian Trade Industry) and DTI (South African Department of Trade Industry) brought the surrounding continent’s Food & Beverage Industry to Cape Town – The DTI and ICE agencies are responsible for bringing the world’s food and beverage industry to Cape Town to be showcased to the African Market.1
Cape Town is the leading Culinary Capital in the world and is the largest importer of food and beverages. Another important culinary country is without a doubt Italy, the county is known for their leading Italian brands in food, wines, and coffee. The majority of artisan food producers at the exhibition were from surrounding areas in Italy as well as South Africa. The aim of the Food Hospitality Exhibition was to welcome businesses from around the world to participate and experience the latest food produce and innovative food technology.
The exhibition gave businesses in the industry the opportunity to form relationships and learn about the latest food trends. Another opportunity were for those who produced food related products as they were able to showcase their innovations to the “World’s culinary stage”.
What I found the most interesting about the exhibition was Fiera Milano’s excellent and innovative idea, The Lion’s Den – The Lion’s Den gave food artisans as well as food and beverage businesses the opportunity to inform buyers and traders about their products. It proved to give those in the food and beverage industry a fair chance as well as receive critical and constructive feedback.
Buyers and traders were spoiled by the choice the “Culinary World” had to offer and they also had the perfect place for meeting, greeting and communicating with potential business relations in the Press Lounge.
Food Hospitality World proved (to me) to be an outstanding success. As an employee who is working in the food and beverage industry it was important to form business relations and network amongst the world’s culinary geniuses. The exhibition also opened CTICC’s doors to the beginning of the ever so popular Good Food and Wine Show.
What could be more positive for Cape Town and South Africa by bringing the world food industry to our country.
