Today I had some extra time and decided to bake pain aux raisins. In order to bake these delicious French raisin rolls, you will need some time as they can’t really be whipped up in minutes. You can cheat some of the way by making use of store bought dough instead of kneading your own, but that’s about it for the cheating part.
Pain aux raisins fall in the same category as croissants, namely Viennoiserie, which are pastries prepared with laminated dough or enriched dough. Regular yeast leavened dough is enriched by incorporating ingredients like eggs or butter to the dough. Once the dough is prepared, an array of other ingredients can be added to make all kinds of gorgeous pastries.
Incorporating butter can be a little tricky and you might struggle with your very first attempt. It does, however, get easier with some practice. And once you or your family have enjoyed these delicious rolls for breakfast, it will be difficult to escape having to make them again!
