Merry Christmas dear friends! I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys a wonderful, festive day filled with heaps of fun, laughter and love. Enjoy the eating and good company of friends and family.
I’m sharing my gluten free chocolate roulade with you today which can literally be whipped up in minutes. Don’t be alarmed that it’s gluten free and might not be as tasty as regular chocolate cake. This roulade is delicious and it’s only a bonus that it’s gluten free!
The French make a yule log which is served at Christmas. It’s basically a chocolate Swiss roll that can be filled with cream, chocolate ganache or any other favourite filling. Ingredients like cherries or fresh berries can also be added, which lend a cheery festive feel to the cake. The cake can be covered with chocolate cream or ganache and decorated to resemble an actual log. The Yule log formed part of Christmas celebrations where a large log, or sometimes even an entire tree, would be placed in the fire to provide warm during the winter solstice. The cake is a representation of this tradition.
I’m definitely making this chocolate roulade as part of our desserts today. Most of my family doesn’t eat fruitcake anyway, so this will certainly fill any gaps after the big lunch.
Once again, I hope you enjoy your Christmas and have fun with friend and family. Much love to all!
