There’s nothing worse than buying fruit and realising once you get home, that it’s not ripe and ready to enjoy yet. Some fruit are easy tojudge for ripeness and some aren’t. Pineapples can be checked in 3 ways. First, smell the pineapple – you want a fresh tropical like smell. Not a musty, fermented smell.
Secondly, firmly pull at one of the pineapple crown leaves. If it pulls out clean and easily, the pineapple is ripe. If it needs force to come out, it is not ripe andif it falls out too easily, it’s over ripe.
Thirdly, check the bottom of the pineapple. It needs to be firm and free of mould. Soft or mouldy means that the pineapple is either over ripe or that ithas beendamaged during storage and transport.
