It’s never too hot to enjoy a mug of hot chocolate, and this is the perfect way to start off Christmas day! The French have perfected hot chocolate and their way of preparing it is way better than a few scoops of dry powder mixed with hot milk.
To make hot chocolate for two, pour 400 ml milk into a medium saucepan. Add 200 g dark chocolate that’s been broken into pieces. Aim for the really good quality chocolate here – there’s no comparison in taste! Gently heat the milk and chocolate together, stirring every now and then. Once the chocolate has completely melted into the milk, allow the milk to simmer for about 2 minutes. Be careful as it could boil up and spill. After two minutes, add 50 ml fresh cream. Use a wire whisk to emulsify the hot chocolate and create a little foam on top.
Pour the hot chocolate into two mugs and enjoy with your Christmas croissant for breakfast.
