Sorbet is definitely underrated when it comes to home preparation and it really doesn’t have to be. Sorbets are incredibly easy to prepare and and you don’t need to freeze it in an ice cream machine. It freezes quite well and easily in a regular container in the freezer. All it needs is a whisking every now and then until it’s frozen and a fork can even be used to do that!
Sorbets can be prepared with so many flavours – ingredients that’s just sitting in your cupboard can be paired together to make a delightful dessert. I love how fresh and delicate sorbets are – they make the perfect dessert, especially in summer.
I prepared a simple pear sorbet, using tinned pears and a little brandy. A squeeze of lemon juice brought all the flavours together beautifully. Remember that alcohol doesn’t freeze, so be careful not to add too much when preparing sorbets.
Sorbet can be served as a palate cleanser in between courses. Usually a small portion will be served and clean flavours like lemon, basil or coconut will feature.
