Satay is a very popular Southeast Asian dish of meat, fish or chicken pieces that are skewered, grilled and served with a sauce. It’s easy going food and usually very flavourful due to the Asian influence. Meat is often combined with ingredients like fresh ginger, garlic, chilli, lemongrass, fresh herbs and spices before cooking. Tumeric is an essential ingredient or give the dish its characteristic yellow colour.
It’s very popular to serve satay with a spicy peanut sauce, but it’s not constricted to only that. Satay is a common street food in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian regions. It’s quick to prepare and easy to enjoy while scouring around street markets for souvenirs.
I made pork satay, using pork mince and a peanut sauce with quite a kick to go with it. I love food like this, because it’s not pretentious. Eat withyour fingersand savour the flavours.
