As I’ve said a million times, ice cream is my favourite sweet treat and the ultimate ice cream dessert must be a sundae. The origin is a little uncertain of this dessert, but we know it comes from our super sweet tooth friends in the Americas.
There are probably a hundred variations on this dessert and I hope to one be able to say that I’ve eaten every single variation of it. Sundaes can be plain with only vanilla ice cream or contain various flavours. Fruit or fruit sauces are often big favourites when it comes to this dessert. Then hot sauces like chocolate, fudge, butterscotch and caramel are also very popular.
Once again, to add texture, nuts, chocolate chards, pieces of fudge or toffee, nougat or brownie can be added. This dessert is literally endless in variations. I love it! It’s such a great dessert dish that can be served easily to large groups of people. Incidentally it’s perfect for a midnight snack too…
I made a rich and sweet butterscotch sauce and drowned layers of vanilla and chocolate ice cream in it. For a little texture I added crushed peanut brittle. Boy oh boy, epic is an understatement. When ice cream is involved, in anything, I could just about burst into song! This is definitely one dessert from the States that I’ll forever appreciate!
