Beyond the bustle of the city of Cape Town, a farm by die name of Kersfontein is situated in the Voor Paardeberg area and hailing from vineyards on this farm comes a new range of wines that’s creating quite the buzz in the industry.
The new brand, Taillard Family Wines include cultivars like Pinotage, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Chenin Blanc. Modern viticulture methods are utilized to ensure that all wine produced on Kersfontein comply with Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) which promotes sustainable farming and the preserving of the vineyards for future genrations.
Owner, Pieter Taljaard, comes from the mining industry and now making his mark in the Cape wine industry. His passion for life runs through to everything he takes on and describes Kersfontein as “an adventure in wine”.
The current range of wines are cleverly named the mining range which depicts on Pieter’s mining history. This range includes Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Pinotage, White Blend and a Late Bottled Vintage Port.
Teddy Hall from Teddy Hall Wines is the winemaker at Kersfontein and gave the following notes on the wine:
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot
A classic blend with silky tannins and Cabernet Sauvignon-led notes of cassis and violets. Enjoy it with red meat dishes and hearty casseroles.
A savoury, peppery, muscular wine with plummy notes – best enjoyed with venison dishes and roasts.
South African at heart and modern in style, this Pinotage has elegant spice and mulberry notes and a juicy finish. It is best enjoyed with pizza, pasta and braaied meat.
With its cherry, plum and spicy notes, this is beautiful on its own or enjoyed with hard cheese and nuts.
Taillard Family Wines reflect the passion Pieter Taljaard and his wife, Dina, have for life, fiends and family. Be on the lookout for the mining range at leading stores.
