I love it when I can replace the flour in a recipe with either oats or ground nuts. It’s incredible the amount of flavour that’s gained by making use of nuts or ground nuts and it’s a bonus that the recipe is now suitable for people with a wheat intolerance.
I have many friends that prefer enjoying a treat that’s either wheat or gluten free, so these little date squares are the perfect tea time treat. They’re also energy packed, due to the dates and nuts – so they are great to add to lunchboxes.
I added pecan nuts to the mixture, but brazil nuts will be really nice too and if you’re feeling adventurous, add some ground cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne pepper for a kick.
These slices last quite well, as long as you keep them in an airtight container.
